★★
A family-run hostel on a quiet street in Las Galeras, one block from the main road and a short walk from two beaches. You can sleep in a shared dorm, a private room or an apartment with its own kitchen. No frills, but the WiFi gets praise in review after review, and the big common area makes it easy to meet other travelers.

Il Triangolo is a white two-story house with blue trim on Calle Chalet Tropical, in the middle of Las Galeras. The village beach (Playa Grande) is about 0.8 km away and La Playita just under a kilometer: a 10- to 20-minute walk, according to guests. One block over you'll find the main road, the colmado (corner store), a supermarket, a bank with an ATM and the stop for the guaguas (minibuses) to Samaná.
It's a hostel in the classic sense: a shared kitchen, a large common room with a ping-pong table and table football, and hosts who take the time to explain which beaches to visit and how to get there. It suits backpackers, solo travelers and couples who want to spend little and be out all day; if you'd like more independence, there are rooms with their own bathroom and two apartments with kitchens.

Las Galeras is a quiet village at the end of the road, on the eastern tip of the Samaná Peninsula, surrounded by beaches that are often reachable only by boat or on foot. Distances are in a straight line from the hotel.

A calm bay with light sand in front of the village, with palm trees leaning over the water. The fishermen's boats leave from here for the beaches that have no road.

About three kilometers of white sand and turquoise water, with a cold-water river (Caño Frío) at one end and stands selling fried fish. You get there on a dirt road or by boat.

A wild beach below a cliff, with a reef for snorkeling. Like tiny Playa Madama (4.3 km), you reach it by boat or on a forest trail, ideally with a guide.
